New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold was having a rough rookie year early on, but recently, he has turned it on and has been one of the most productive signal-callers in the league.

As a matter of fact, Pro Football Focus says he has been the best quarterback in the league since Week 14.

Darnold's improvement began against the Buffalo Bills three weeks ago, when he completed 16 of his 24 passes for 170 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in a 27-23 win.

He then exploded the next two weeks, going 24-for-38 with 253 yards and a couple of touchdowns during a loss to the Houston Texans on Dec. 15 and then going on to complete 24 of his 35 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns in what was his best performance of the year in an overtime defeat against the Green Bay Packers.

Overall this season, Darnold has thrown for 2,698 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions while completing 57.8 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 77.8.

Those numbers are hardly great, but it's about progress, and Darnold has certainly shown a lot of it over the last few weeks.

The 21-year-old, who played his collegiate football at USC, was selected by the Jets with the third overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.

For the first time in what seems like centuries, New York may finally have a legitimate quarterback going forward, making it through an era that was littered with names such as Mark Sanchez, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh McCown.

New York enters its regular-season finale against the New England Patriots with a record of 4-11.
