Although the news didn't come off as a surprise after a woeful season, New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold was still saddened over the recent firing of head coach Adam Gase, per ESPN‘s Rich Cimini.

The Jets organization decided to part ways with Gase after two seasons with the team, during which he had Darnold as his starting quarterback. The tactician initially came out with a respectable performance as the new head coach of the Jets last season after ending his debut campaign with a 7-9 record.

Although the team missed the playoffs, there was growing optimism that the Jets will be able to sustain their good showing in the next season. But things didn't go as expected.

Gang Green eventually failed to carry over their momentum into the 2020 season as they continued to be overpowered by their opponents, week-in and week-out. A 28-14 loss at the hands of the New England Patriots in Week 17 concluded the Jets' campaign with a 2-14 record.

On the other hand, Darnold also finds himself in a shaky situation coming off another losing season as the team's QB1. After three years at the helm, the USC product has yet to prove that he is indeed capable of living up to the billing of a franchise quarterback in the league.

Heading to his fourth season, Darnold is already in danger of being replaced as the Jets hold the No.2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft which is expected to banner a handful of prolific playmakers from the collegiate ranks.

After Adam Gase's firing, the upcoming offseason will certainly be crucial for the Jets as they continue to traverse on their journey to rebuilding their squad moving forward.
