Former NFL Pro Bowler Kellen Winslow Jr. was sentenced to 14 years in prison for multiple rapes and sexual offenses against five women in Southern California.

Winslow was convicted of forcible rape, rape of an unconscious person, assault with intent to commit rape, indecent exposure, and lewd conduct in public. The 14-year sentencing was the maximum under his plea deal. He did not speak at sentencing on the advice of counsel.

The 37-year-old's crimes included the forcible rape of a homeless woman in Encinitas, just north of San Diego. She was among the four women to make statements on Wednesday, per the AP via NFL.com:

The woman who was homeless called into the hearing via video conference from the San Diego County District Attorney's office, where she was watching the proceedings with another victim.

She said since she was raped she has had trouble raising her head and walking, and she feels afraid constantly, checking under beds and in closets, and cannot be alone.

“It's affecting my life every day and every night,” she said. “I don't ever feel safe inside or outside. You brought so much damage to my life.”

The conviction comes following a trial in June 2019.

Kellen Winslow Jr. was convicted of forcible rape and a pair of misdemeanors. The jury could not agree on a pair of other charges, however, which included an alleged 2018 rape of a hitchhiker and 2003 rape of a 17-year-old girl. Winslow instead pleaded guilty to raping the teen and sexual battery of the hitchhiker.

Winslow's attorneys argued the numerous head traumas he sustained during his playing career caused his shift in behavior, though the 2003 rape of the teenage girl says otherwise.

San Diego County Superior Court Judge Blaine Bowman agreed, and Kellen Winslow Jr. will serve his maximum sentence.
