The Charlotte Hornets saw their nice four-game win streak end tonight, as they fell to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers at home, 118-105. Despite the loss, Hornets fans will always remember this day as the time when Kemba Walker became the franchise’s all-time leading scorer by supplanting Dell Curry atop that list.

Walker only needed 20 points to surpass Curry’s record (9,839) entering the ball game. Although the Hornets were clearly on their way to picking up a loss, the crowd inside Time Warner Cable Arena were all up on their feet in anticipation of Walker’s record-setting bucket, which came with only 20 seconds left in the game.

All told, Kemba Walker now has 9,841 points in Hornets uniform after finishing the contest with 21 points on 7-for-18 shooting from the field. Walker also set that new Hornets record in just his 517th game, while it took Dell Curry 701 games in Charlotte threads to score all those 9,839 points. Curry played for the Hornets for 10 seasons from 1988 to 1998.

Walker was taken ninth overall in the 2011 NBA Draft by the then-named Charlotte Bobcats. Walker and Curry remain as the only Charlotte players to have more than 7,500 points as a Hornet. Gerald Wallace is third on the all-time Hornets list with 7,437 points, while Larry Johnson is fourth with 7,405.

It’s also worth noting that LeBron James also tied Michael Jordan, the principal owner of the Hornets, for the most consecutive games with at least 10 points in Wednesday’s matchup with Charlotte.

Walker and the Hornets will look to bounce back this Saturday on the road against the Washington Wizards.
