The Sacramento Kings were on the verge of a brutal loss to a shorthanded Dallas Mavericks team on Wednesday night after Harrison Barnes botched a layup that would have tied the game in the final minute. The Mavs had a chance to put the game away with a bucket, but the Kings got the stop they needed to give themselves one more chance.

An unlikely hero then won the game.

Kings star De'Aaron Fox took the inbounds pass and made a dash for the basket. With Dallas collapsing on him to stop a game-tying layup attempt, Fox made a pass to the corner to find … Chimezie Metu for a game-winning 3-point look.

The Kings mobbed Metu on the court after his game-winner. The Kings big man isn't exactly what you'd call a sniper from downtown, sitting at just 26.1% on the season. But he made the big shot when it mattered most, giving Sacramento the much-needed win.

After the game, Metu admitted this was probably the best moment he has had since entering the NBA:

Metu came into the NBA in 2018 as a second-round pick of the San Antonio Spurs. He played two seasons with the Spurs before moving on to Sacramento for the 2020-21 season.

This season, Metu is playing his biggest role yet in the league, despite his shooting struggles. He's averaging 9.2 points and 6.7 rebounds while shooting 40.9% overall in 23.7 minutes per game. He has even started 16 games.

The Kings would love to see Metu get more efficient offensively, but for now they'll revel in this epic game-winning shot to get them to 15-21 on the season, which is 11th in the Western Conference.
