Sacramento Kings center Dewayne Dedmon has been fined $50,000 by the league office for making his trade request public earlier this week:

The fine is consistent with the one Anthony Davis received last season after his agent, Rich Paul, leaked his desire to be traded from the New Orleans Pelicans.

Commissioner Adam Silver put this rule in motion in the last collective bargaining agreement to clean up the image of the NBA and stop players or agents from requesting trades publicly, something that has become somewhat popular in the past few years in order to create leverage.

Rumors of Dedmon's unhappiness in Sacramento surfaced days before he was asked if they were true. Dedmon confirmed the rumors and expanded on his reasoning, claiming he had just not been given a fair opportunity and that his lack of minutes wasn't purely the result of his poor shooting this season.

Dedmon lost his starting spot quickly this season, as Richaun Holmes proved to be a better fit next to Marvin Bagley III and company.

The Kings signed Dedmon as a replacement for the departing Willie Cauley-Stein, inking him to a three-year, $40 million deal in July — though his numbers have hardly warranted that compensation.

The 30-year-old center is averaging just 4.8 points and 3.8 rebounds after back-to-back career-high seasons with the Atlanta Hawks.
