Mike Malone before he was the head coach of the Denver Nuggets was in Sacramento with the Kings. He had a young DeMarcus Cousins and a budding Isaiah Thomas. Malone has wondered how it could've been different if things had been different.

Malone told the Denver Post:

“I will always wonder what if, Obviously we have Isaiah (Thomas) now, and Isaiah and I will talk about it at times. (But) I have no regrets. I love the place I’m in. I love the people I work with, I’m thankful for the opportunity that I was given here because that allowed me to show other people in the NBA that I was a worthy candidate to be a head coach for another team.”

Malone, who spent two seasons with the Kings and went 39-67 overall was hired by Denver right after he was let go. The 2014-2015 season Sacramento had three head coaches, and none seemed to work effectively. They never knew how to build a winner around Cousins, who will be one of the most coveted free agents this offseason.

In the 2013-14 season, Isaiah Thomas averaged 20.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 34.9 percent from deep.

It took two more years for Thomas to finally break out. He did so with the Boston Celtics under head coach Brad Stevens. He was an MVP candidate and had the best season of his career before injuries have put his career to a halt.

The Nuggets are 24-11 and currently sit first in the NBA's Western Conference. They will face off next against the Sacramento Kings at the Golden One Center.
