Monday was a tragic day in Sacramento as a man walked into a church and killed three of his children during what appeared to be a supervised visit. He also killed the adult accompanying the children before turning the gun on himself, leaving five total people dead. This tragedy left the community stunned and saddened, including Sacramento Kings forward Harrison Barnes.

Barnes took to Twitter after the Kings' victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder with a message:

Ā

According to CNN, the shooter had a restraining order against him and was required to have supervised visits with the children, who were all under 15 years of age. The children's mother was unharmed and is cooperating with authorities.

The words from the Kings forward were echoed by many in the wake of this horrific news, including by California Governor Gavin Newsom:

CNN says this was the 70th mass shooting event ā€” featuring at least four people injured or killed, not including the shooter ā€” in the United States in 2022. While these kinds of tragedies seem unfathomable, they sadly happen way too often in this country thanks to the proliferation of guns, among other reasons.

Prayers go out to the victims and the Sacramento community.
