The father of Sacramento Kings forward Marvin Bagley III tweeted about what he felt the organization should do with his son in order to maximize his talent: trade him.

The tweet was deleted by his father, but not before it was shared for the rest of the NBA world to see (h/t Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee):

According to Anderson, these sentiments may have been triggered by Bagley's performance against the Houston Rockets this past Saturday. Bagley only played 25 minutes and spent a large majority of the fourth quarter on the bench.

In the Kings' loss to the Rockets, the young forward out of Duke only scored 12 points and recorded nine rebounds.

This is what head coach Luke Walton had to say about the tweet, via Anderson:

“Well, my message is always the same, we don’t listen to any of that,” the Kings tactician said. “It’s us within these walls, us within this locker room, and we’re in this together. Like I always say, good or bad, whatever people are saying, we’ve got to do everything we can not to let that affect what we’re trying to get done here.”

Marvin Bagley III has averaged 14.6 points and 7.6 rebounds as part of the Kings for the last three seasons. He has battled through injuries all throughout his professional career, as he was only able to play 13 games in 2019-20.

If what his dad said also mirrored how Bagley feels about his status with the Kings, this would be a dangerous development for the organization. For a franchise that has not made the playoff since 2006, they will need Bagley's presence in the paint–paired with De'Aaron Fox's explosiveness–to lead the team to a playoff appearance.
