The NBA will investigate comments recently made by Sacramento Kings center Dewayne Dedmon, hoping to determine if he should be fined for stating he “would like to be traded,” according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

“I would like to be traded,” Dedmon recently told Jason Anderson The Sacramento Bee. “I haven’t been playing, so I would like to go somewhere where my talents are appreciated.”

The public request of a trade, whether by a player or his representatives, constitutes a violation of the collective bargaining agreement — something that started with Anthony Davis getting a $50,000 fine last season after his trade request to the New Orleans Pelicans was made quite public by his agent Rich Paul.

Dedmon was already rumored to be on his way out if the Kings could find a suitable package in return, but the seven-footer left no doubt after spelling out his woes since joining Sacramento on a three-year, $40 million deal this summer.

The 30-year-old has seen his playing time nearly-halved since starting his 2019-20 season with the Kings, a lot of it being self-inflicted due to his poor shooting numbers. He's been limited to 13 minutes per game, mostly due to the emergence of Richaun Holmes as a viable starter.

Dedmon was expected to be the immediate replacement for Willie Cauley-Stein, who signed a two-year deal with the Warriors in July, but he's been far from efficient at his position, shooting 41.9% from the floor and 22.9% from deep this season while averaging a subpar 4.8 points and 3.8 rebounds this season.

If found culpable, Dedmon could be facing a similar $50,000 fine from the league office for making his grievances known.
