The Kyrie Irving trade saga had another twist recently when speculations surfaced about the Sacramento Kings having interest in trading for the 25-year-old Duke product’s services. It was also reported that they were willing to give up De’Aaron Fox and Kosta Koufos in exchange for the All-Star point guard, and allow them to once again have a legitimate star in their fold.

However, in a piece made by James Ham of CSN Bay Area, the Kings are now refuting the rumors as they are fully committed to Fox, who they see as their point guard of the future.

“A league source confirmed to NBC Sports California that the Kings have no interest in dealing Fox, who they acquired with the 5th overall selection in June’s NBA Draft. The 19-year-old is considered the future of the franchise at the point guard position and according to the source, any rumor of the team offering him in a deal are false.”

Despite Irving being a proven floor general and widely considered as one of the best in the league today, it does make sense for the Kings to want Fox to stay with the team. They currently have a young core to which they added three veterans this summer in Vince Carter, Zach Randolph, and George Hill to serve as mentors. Adding a superstar may also defeat the purpose of building from the draft and setting up their success in the future. Clearly, the team is ready to rebuild slowly and see if Fox could be the player who will emerge as their go-to-guy.

Besides, committing two years to a big money player makes no sense since the Kings are not in the business of winning right now anyway.

For now, Irving remains with the Cavs, but a blockbuster trade could happen anytime, which could shake up the competitive balance of the NBA once again. This could be a big dent on Cleveland's chemistry, but they aren't giving up Irving easily without getting mind-blowing returns.
