A Kevin Durant-New York Knicks marriage has always been the rumor throughout the entire 2018-19 season. But Durant's Achilles injury has since diminished their stance as the favorites and other teams have emerged as strong contenders to land the two-time Finals MVP.

New York, however, is not out of the race just yet. According to Marc Berman of The New York Post, rumors around the scouting combine in May suggest that Durant's agent and friend Rich Kleiman could get an important front office role with the Knicks.

The buzz at the scouting combine in Chicago in May said Kleiman was in position to grab an important front-office role and become as powerful a decision-maker as GM Scott Perry.

Surely, this would be a game-changer for Durant. There is no guessing what Durant is thinking, but Kleiman could strongly influence his decision when the clock strikes at 6pm later tonight.

Apart from Kleiman, Durant also has ties with other people in New York – including his close friend DeAndre Jordan, whom the Knicks are looking to re-sign this summer and his former mentee in Oklahoma City Allonzo Trier.

Given the other factors that can ultimately pull Durant to the franchise, adding Kleiman with a significant role in the organization might be the sweetener for the 10-time All-Star.

The Brooklyn Nets have emerged as one of the strong suitors for Durant, who will miss out on the entire 2019-20 season due to the ruptured Achilles. Kyrie Irving is reportedly headed to the Nets, and perhaps a superstar pairing with Uncle Drew can entice Durant to follow suit.

However, reports indicate that Durant wants to make a decision without the influence of another player. Wherever the 2014 MVP goes will surely send shock waves all over the league.
