Trae Young was clearly motivated in his latest visit to New York. The Atlanta Hawks point guard laid waste to the Knicks defense for a 117-111 win.
The performance was reminiscent of Trae Young’s masterful display in the Knicks-Hawks first-round series during last year’s NBA playoffs. Young averaged 29.2 points and 9.8 assists in the five game series, becoming the perfect villain to spoil what was a resurgent Knicks season.
He one-upped himself on Tuesday night, torching New York in a 45-point eruption. Trae Young went 13-for-25 from the field with seven threes and eight assists.
In typical Ice Trae fashion, he also offered up some icy postgame quotes. Asked about the rather healthy jeers from the Knicks crowd, Young claimed they could’ve still taken things up a notch.
“I couldn’t really hear them, for real. It wasn’t even that loud to be honest with you,” said Trae Young on the boos from Knicks fans in return to Madison Square Garden.

He made sure to follow that up on Twitter, where he added some final touches to his playful jabs at the Knicks faithful.
The Return to the City was cool… real cool🤫

Both the New York Knicks and Trae Young’s Hawks haven’t exactly had ideal seasons this year. But wherever they are in the standings, the rivalry will likely continue for years to come.
