It's been a great offseason for the Seattle Kraken so far, as the front office has brought in some amazing young talent through the draft. Offensively, this roster is set for the next several years, as Seattle just needs their prospects to develop. Meanwhile, the organization has made big moves to improve the defense, especially now with Justin Schultz and Martin Jones joining the team.

On Wednesday, the Kraken announced they have officially signed defenseman Justin Schultz to a two-year contract, averaging $3 million per year. It's a smart signing for Seattle, as he's a solid veteran who will likely earn starting time while helping the prospects adjust to the professional level. Schultz will be a great pairing with Andre Burakovsky, improving the defense immensely.

Additionally, the Kraken have also reached a deal with veteran goalie Martin Jones on a one-year $2 million contract. Jones should be a great rotational option behind Phillipp Grubauer and Chris Driedger. At the very least, Seattle ensures their goalie rotation with another veteran. It makes sense considering the front office didn't select a goalie or defensemen in the NHL Draft.

Defense and depth were the key issues for this team last season and the franchise addressed those needs successfully. The Kraken found some solid future depth in the draft while addressing the holes on defense through free agency. With these two joining the roster, Seattle is even closer to becoming more competitive. As long as the rookies continue developing, this organization will make some noise in future years.
