No matter who or what you are, losing $500,000 will absolutely ruin your day. Of course huge corporations are able to generate cash flows to self sustain themselves after losses in revenue, but financial punishments are the worst blows to a company's balance sheet.

The Los Angeles Lakers, arguably the most successful NBA franchise of all time, saw a half-million dollar hit to their bank account not too long ago due to their alleged tampering with Pacers superstar Paul George. At first, it didn't seem like such a big deal, but the Pacers organization must have egged the situation on to make sure the Lakers saw some form of payback, even though they never ended up acquiring George.

When it comes to teams and players utilizing their social capital to recruit top talent, it happens all the time. The NBA is a business with many moving parts, and trying to control every ethical element of every decision made is ludicrous. The fact that the Lakers are suffering this financial blow came to the surprise of many, even prompting a few unnamed NBA executives to take shots at the Pacers.

Calling this move “bush league” has some truth to it. Sure, the Pacers have been lackluster these past few decades, but they are still among the top ranked teams around the world. They should act like it.
