Anthony Davis came to the Los Angeles Lakers to win ball games, that much is clear.

The six-time All-Star power forward kicked off the offseason with a blockbuster trade between the New Orleans Pelicans and Lakers, teaming up with three-time NBA champion LeBron James in his quest to win a championship.

Now with the Lakers, AD told Peter Flax of Red Bull that he talks with LeBron everyday about their goals for the 2019-20 season. He pointed out his belief that he and LBJ can achieve “something special” playing together.

Still, everyone really wants to know how Davis and LeBron James will mesh. As we sit and talk in Encino, Lakers practices have not yet started, but Davis says that he and LeBron “talk every day — about the team and our goals, what we want to do this year and what we want to accomplish, and breaking it down to the very smallest molecules,” he says. “I think two guys like us, we have a very good chance of doing something special.”

He adds: “We haven’t done anything in terms of basketball together — that time is going to come.”

Davis was traded to the Lakers for a huge haul — Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and multiple first-round picks were sent to the Pelicans — so the LA franchise is expecting a lot from the big man pairing with James in the frontcourt.

The Lakers missed the playoffs for the sixth straight season in 2018-19, but with a new coaching staff and team headlined by James and Davis, the postseason drought is expected to end shortly.

Should AD win a championship with the purple and gold, he would side-step his former legacy of falling up short in terms of competitiveness while with the Pelicans (although you can't blame it all on one player).
