Austin Reaves had a memorable debut campaign for the Los Angeles Lakers this past season. Prior to the start of the year, the expectations weren't very high for the undrafted rookie, particularly since he would be playing alongside superstars such as LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook. Nevertheless, Reaves turned out to be quite a revelation for LA and quite surprisingly, one of the few bright spots in an otherwise horrendous season for the Lakers.

After breaking out in his rookie year, Reaves admits that he would love to play a bigger role for the Lakers next season. After all, you can't say that he doesn't deserve it. However, the 23-year-old understands that at the end of the day, basketball is a team sport.

“Yea for sure. I always want to grow and get better and continue to make strides forward and having the ball in my hands a little bit being able to make plays,” Reaves said, via Corey Handsford of Lakers Nation. “But at the end of the day I realize that we got guys on the team so I do what it takes to help the team be successful. If that means be on-ball, be off-ball, those types of things like plug-and-play guy, defensive guy, whatever it is that I can do to help our team be successful is what I’ll do.”

Simply put, Reaves is willing to do whatever is needed from him. This guy doesn't have much of an ego, which is probably one of the biggest reasons behind his success with the Lakers this past season.

“Like I said last night, to have them support me the way that they support me is special,” Reaves said. “And I like to think that over this last year I’ve gained their trust and respect and like I said it’s just special. You couldn’t even write it better in a book. It’s really a dream come true.”

Reaves' current deal will end at the conclusion of this season and he is set to become a free agent this summer. Based on what we've seen from him in 2021-22, it would be rather surprising if the Lakers decided against offering him a new deal.
