Los Angeles Lakers rookie guard Lonzo Ball has been constantly getting heat from people who believe the team from Tinseltown got themselves a bust. It’s fair to say that in Ball’s first year in the NBA, he doesn’t look as good as advertised. When you have a brash hype man like LaVar Ball on your side, people are going to expect great things day in and day out. Unfortunately, it has also led to the public giving so much scrutiny on the Lonzo’s flaws, most especially his shooting performance.

Just don’t count former NBA All-Star point guard Baron Davis as among the growing list of fans discontented of what they’re seeing from Lonzo. In an appearance on “The Breakfast Club” Friday, Davis implied that he’s not at all worried of Ball’s inconsistent play this season.

“I like Lonzo Ball. I'll say this, he don't say nothing, you know what I mean. Whatever he say, he sticks to whatever he say. He ain't his daddy. He ain't out here talking like his daddy. He's out here playing basketball, trying to win, playing good.

[He's] playing great for a rookie playing for the Lakers with this much attention and pressure. He handles it all well. I think he's going to be great.

It's just a matter of putting the right pieces [around him]. He's the type of player – if you put the right pieces around him, potent scorers and people who can actually dominate the game, then he's the guy who's going to make all the right decisions.”

Davis understands that it’s not an easy thing to do for rookies to adjust to their style of play in the NBA right from the get-go. Lonzo could be struggling on offense this season, shooting just 34.0 percent from the field and just 27.4 percent from behind the arc, but that doesn’t mean he’ll shoot poorly for the rest of his career.

Plus Lonzo is doing an admirable job in some other facets of the game, as he is averaging 7.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game this year, which Davis clearly recognize.

Davis clearly has the back of his fellow UCLA product.
