It seems as if current Golden State Warriors assistant coach and former Los Angeles Lakers player Luke Walton didn't listen to his father.
The Lakers announced on Friday night that the team and Luke Walton have come to a multi-year agreement for Walton to become the new Head Coach, effective at the end of the Warriors’ season. His father, former NBA great Bill Walton, did not think Luke should take a head coaching position.
The younger Walton established himself as a legitimate head-coaching commodity after taking over as interim head coach for the Warriors as Steve Kerr recovered from off-season back surgery during the first 43 games of the team's season.
During that stretch, Walton went 39-4, including an NBA record 24-0 start to the season. Walton also finished in eighth place in this year’s Coach of the Year voting.
Evidently, Bill knows his son rather well. After suggesting that Luke stay with the Warriors as opposed to taking the Lakers job, Bill asks the reporter with a clairvoyant smile on his face, “With that being said… Did you listen to your dad, Tim?”
As Charles Wadsworth once said: “By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he’s wrong.”
Luke Walton has a two-year-old son who likely isn't sentient enough to know much difference between right and wrong — yet.
