Earlier this week, images of the Los Angeles Lakers' 2018-19 ‘City Edition' uniforms began making rounds on social media. Last year's variant was black with gold numerals. This season, the kits will be predominantly purple, accented by black numbers and pinstripes.

The Lakers' new kits are more than just an eye-catcher, though. The design incorporates the “Showtime Lakers” look from the 80's, while paying homage to one of the team's most iconic players (and President of Basketball Operations) in Magic Johnson. Look closely and you'll notice a “32” and an “M” on the waistband. And though it's hard to make out from afar, the black pin-striping actually spells out “SHOWTIME 3X5X,” which is a reference to Magic's three MVP awards and five NBA titles.

In addition to the City Edition uniforms, the Lakers will wear three other unique kits this season, including the gold Icon edition, the purple Statement edition, and a white Association edition.

The Lakers wrapped up their 2018 preseason campaign with a victory over the Golden State Warriors on Friday night, 119-105. Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk led Los Angeles in the scoring department, racking up 22 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field (2-of-5 from beyond the arc) and four assists in 32 minutes of action.

Los Angeles will kick off their regular season campaign on October 18 with a match-up against the Portland Trail Blazers. Tip-off inside The Moda Center is set for 10:30 p.m. EST with TNT having live broadcast coverage.
