The Los Angeles Lakers had one of the best benches in the NBA last season. They bolstered that second unit even more this year in their bid to repeat as champions. Dennis Schroder and Montrezl Harrell were just some of their biggest offseason hauls. On Monday, the newly-acquired Lakers point guard gushed about how much damage he and Harrell can unleash against opposing teams in 2020-21. Via Lakers reporter Mike Trudell:

The Lakers now have two of the best reserves in the league last year at their disposal. Montrezl Harrell was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year following his phenomenal year with former team Los Angeles Clippers where he notched 18.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 blocks.

Dennis Schroder came in a close second in the voting, after relieving Chris Paul for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He also had a fine year averaging 18.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.0 dimes, while shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 38.5 from downtown. He will log significant minutes for the Lakers in the regular season.

Both bench stars are expected to fulfill the same role for the Purple and Gold once the new season starts on December 22. Schroder, however, recently made headlines when he made a convincing take on why he should be a starter next season. He might just get his wish considering the Lakers' starting point guard last year, Rajon Rondo, signed with Schroder's former team, the Atlanta Hawks.

The 27-year-old German facilitator, meanwhile, is not wrong about the potential of his pairing with Harrell for the Lakers. Schroder has become a much better playmaker over the years, while Harrell is great at reading pick and rolls and is an effective floor runner. The rest of the league better watch for these two in the upcoming season.
