After competing for the Larry O’Brien Trophy for a total of 20 years, former Los Angeles Lakers point guard and ex-New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher is now looking to capture the Mirror Ball Trophy of Dancing with the Stars.

He made his debut on the show recently, together with his partner, Sharna Burgess, and placed eighth out of 13 competitors with a score of 18 out of 30 points.

Since being involved in a the vehicular accident earlier this year, Derek Fisher has not been seen in the limelight often. However, that may change now, especially if he continues to advance weekly in the latest season of the show. He aims to be the first NBA player to win it, and prove that he also has the talent to excel on the dance floor.

Former NBA players have not fared well on the show, as Clyde Drexler came in eighth place in season four, Rick Fox was sixth in season 11, while Metta World Peace was the first contestant eliminated in season 13.

For what it’s worth, Fisher made a good account of himself in his first performance, and showed that he has good chemistry with his partner.
