Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard took some time on Wednesday to reflect on all things Purple and Gold, from his first stint with the team (2012-13) to his current role.

Howard went into detail on his experience with the Lakers as part of Jared Dudley's Instagram live stream, and he spoke a little about Kobe Bryant the “girl dad.”

Howard said he was glad to see a different element to Kobe's persona in terms of how the “Black Mamba” would interact with his daughters (via Mirjam Swanson of the Long Beach Press-Telegram):

“Just watching how him and his daughter was at the games and stuff, I was like, ‘Wow, man, this is a whole different side of Kobe,’” Howard said. “And I loved seeing that because a lot of people — including myself — I only saw the basketball side of him, and now seeing all this stuff, it’s like, man, this is crazy, he went from the greatest basketball player to the greatest dad for his children.”

Anyone nicknamed “Black Mamba” must take on a venomous persona.

Indeed, Bryant was ruthless on the court. Some teammates — especially Howard — struggled to coexist with Kobe because of his demanding nature and relentless basketball attitude. However, Howard came to appreciate Bryant the father.

Kobe's tragic death in January brought back a flood of memories with respect to one of the greatest basketball players in history. But it also shed even more light on the love Bryant shared with his daughters, as well as everything he had been doing to empower young women and women's athletes.

In many ways, this “different side” Howard spoke about is the true Kobe legacy. Common citizens can aspire to be like Kobe the father: sharing and spreading love for all.
