One of the greatest Los Angeles Lakers of all time will be trying his hand at ballroom dancing. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is going to be trading his old sneakers for dancing shoes when he competes on the 26th season of ABC's hit show “Dancing With the Stars.”

According to the Boston Globe:

Other participating athletes will include snowboarder Jamie Anderson, ex-baseball player Johnny Damon, former softball pitcher Jennie Finch Daigle, former figure skater Tonya Harding, luger Chris Mazdzer, figure skaters Mirai Nagasu and Adam Rippon, and NFL cornerback Josh Norman.

The show this year has been cut down to four weeks and with Abdul-Jabbar coming in at the ripe old age of 71, that is probably a positive for him if he wants to win the contest.

He will be paired up with dancing pro Lindsay Arnold who won the competition, so that is another positive that could help him in this year's show.

Abdul-Jabbar was known for having good footwork in the NBA. Hopefully, he hasn't lost a step because he is going to need that in this competition.

He played 1,560 games with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers. He averaged 24.6 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game throughout his career.

The new show will kick off on April 30th on ABC.
