Free agent All-Star and reigning Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard is set to meet with the Los Angeles Lakers, the team considered as the frontrunner to sign him. According to rumors, his camp has requested that only Jeanie Buss, the team's controlling owner, be present during the meeting. However, that seems to have changed as they are now open to having general manager Rob Pelinka joining Buss to make the pitch, according to LA Times' Tania Ganguli and Broderick Turner.

The Lakers have made themselves legitimate contenders to land Kawhi after they freed enough cap space to create one more max slot. If they are successful, Leonard will join LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the Purple and Gold, and that will be considered as one of the strongest trios ever assembled in the history of the league.

However, Laker fans will have to wait a little bit longer, as recent reports have stated that Leonard has no plans of conducting any meetings tonight. Instead, he plans to meet with the Lakers and other teams within the next few days.

Waiting for Leonard could be a costly move for the Lakers, as most of the top and mid-tier free agents are gone. But this is a risk they are willing to take because the consensus around the league is that they are extremely confident about their chances of getting Kawhi. And even if they don't, they already have Bron, AD, and Kyle Kuzma, so they're in a pretty good situation no matter what happens.
