D'Angelo Russell's two years with the Los Angeles Lakers weren't great. While his play on the court was decent, Russell's controversial saga with Nick Young coupled with his immature attitude was a big reason why Magic Johnson traded the lefty to the Brooklyn Nets in the summer of 2017.

Russell's coach on the Lakers, Byron Scott, was recently a guest on LA AM 570 Radio, and he talked about how he and Lakers legend Kobe Bryant used to get upset with Russell because the youngster was showing up to practice literally five minutes before it started (via Complex):

“He (Kobe) was frustrated. I mean, he told me, ‘Coach, they don't get it.' Kobe would go out an hour and a half before practice and say I gotta make 500 shots. And Jordan (Clarkson) would be the one guy that would join him. I had to put in a rule because we had practice at 11 o' clock and he (Russell) would walk on the floor at 10:55, shirt out. I said, ‘Look man, you not a ten-year pro.' You still gotta learn how to get better at your craft.”

The Lakers are now title contenders with LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the charge. There were multiple reports that said LA was interested in bringing Russell back this past summer since he's an All-Star now and more mature.

Russell, though, signed with the Golden State Warriors as part of the sign-and-trade deal with the Brooklyn Nets involving Kevin Durant.
