Just days after Stephen Jackson implored Kobe Bryant to suit up in the BIG3, news comes that the former Los Angeles Laker may be planning on doing just that. BIG3 co-founder Jeff Kwatinetz said Tuesday on a conference call that “a credible source” told him Bryant would be playing next year.

However, Kwatinetz also said while this is notable, “it may be nothing.”

There has been no other confirmation on Kobe playing, so this should be taken with a grain of salt for now. Even if Bryant does play in the BIG3, who knows just how much he'll actually play. Still, it would be exciting to see The Black Mamba lace up the sneakers again against other former NBA players.

Jackson and fellow BIG3 player Alan Anderson were recently asked if Kobe could handle the physicality in the league, to which the pair of players both laughed at the notion that he couldn't.

Jackson's ultimate message to Kobe was this: “We need you, we need you.”

Bryant would certainly bring a ton of attention to the BIG3 if he decided to play, even if it was just a short-term thing. The league has featured some impressive former NBA players both on the court and on the sidelines, but Kobe would take the cake.

Ice Cube has been trying to get Kobe to play for some time, and perhaps the league co-founder has finally succeeded.

“That would be amazing,” Ice Cube admitted Tuesday.
