One would think that the Los Angeles Lakers would draw heavy inspiration from their triumphant run to the NBA title last season. Because that would be too logical, right? No, if you ask Kyle Kuzma.

While Kuzma acknowledged they had an inspired journey last season, this campaign has been entirely different, especially with almost half of the roster from last year already gone. He said their championship run won't be much of a factor as they look to advance to the NBA Playoffs (via Lakers Nation).

“We have new guys that haven’t really been in a situation like this before and we have to build our own story and journey out of this one. Obviously, you can relate a little bit. You have certain guys that have been on this roster. Five or six of us have played in the Finals and the playoffs last year, but the makeup of this team is much different.”

The 25-year-old Kuzma has surely played a bigger role this season with the extended absence of LeBron James and Anthony Davis due to injuries. The former University of Utah standout has carried the Lakers in several games with his more well-rounded game, especially on the defensive end. While Kuzma is still relatively inconsistent, it's apparent he's embraced his role even more as they look to defend their crown.

“I think we’re still a working progress. I think we’ve made positive steps in the right direction. I think we’ve done a great job of integrating people and then getting people back in and getting them up to speed and still trying to gel everyone at the same time. I like it.”

For sure, Kyle Kuzma would like it even more if they survive the play-in tournament. Because that would be too logical, right?
