The Los Angeles Lakers are still trying to solidify the roster and bolster a somewhat thin front line. The Lakers have signed Johnathan Williams to a two-way contract and have waived Travis Wear, according to a press release received by ClutchPoints' Ryan Ward. Williams was waived just prior to the season, but Los Angeles clearly think it's worth it to give him another shot.

The 6-foot-9 rookie is a graduate of Gonzaga and is a solid rebounder and scorer. Williams can play for the Lakers without cutting into his 45 days of service from now until the G League begins. He'll spend a majority of his season with the South Bay Lakers developing, but he could be a potential piece of the puzzle for Los Angeles down the line.

Unfortunately, Williams' opportunity comes at the expense of Travis Wear. The 6-foot-10 swingman only appeared in 17 games for the Lakers last season. The team could be looking to get younger which would make sense considering the fact that Wear is already 28. Teams generally want younger players on two-way deals.

Los Angeles is stumbling out of the gates after an opening-night loss in Portland. Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum and Nik Stauskas, of all people, took it to LeBron James and the new-look Lakers. The Trail Blazers trio put up 73 points combined. The most surprising of the bunch was certainly Stauskas' 24-point barrage off the bench. Stauskas — also known as Sauce Castillo — was 5-for-8 from 3-point range as well.

Los Angeles is looking to rebound after the offensive onslaught from Portland. Perhaps Williams can give the team a spark of energy.
