Unsurprisingly, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James made history right at the opener of the 2021-22 NBA season.

LeBron breaking records is nothing new by now. He is arguably the greatest player to ever play the game, and his dominance has just been fascinating to watch. So when he broke another record, it didn't really come as a shock.

However, that doesn't mean it's any less important. After all, it's a record Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan wasn't able to touch as well.

According to Stat Muse, LeBron surpassed Karl Malone for the most points scored in a season opener. At the half against the Golden State Warriors, King James scored 18 points to break Malone's 463 points. He entered the contest at 447.

Where is Michael Jordan, you ask? His Airness is third at 431 points. However, it is worth noting that he did it in just 14 seasons. It's hard to imagine where he would be placed had he not retired briefly.

Then again, LeBron James' latest accomplishment just shows his elite longevity–something that his peers admire about him the most. In fact, Stephen Curry himself spoke about it recently, noting how the Lakers star “set the standard for that.”

“Let’s keep it real — what is he, in his 18th year? Nine straight Finals, all the things that he’s accomplished. You have a vision of sustaining your prime for as long as you can, kind of reimagining what that looks like. So you know the work that goes into it, the intentionality, especially in the offseasons, especially how you take care of your body, your mind. Balance on court, off court,” the Warriors sharpshooter said of James, per Nick Friedell of ESPN.

LeBron has still a few years left in the league, which means he could add more to his tally of most points in a season opener. Most likely, it will be another record that would be impossible to surpass.
