The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a multiyear contract extension with Rob Pelinka. The franchise also promoted Pelinka to the title of vice president of basketball operations and general manager, something star LeBron James says Pelinka ā€œearned.ā€

The Lakers have acquired LeBron James and Anthony Davis in successive offseasons under Rob Pelinka, although Magic Johnson helped the Lakers get LeBron in the summer of 2018.

LA has the best record in the Western Conference with Davis and James leading the way. All signs point toward the Lakers going on a deep playoff run this season.

In his first season with the Lakers, Davis has been a monster on both ends of the court. Heā€™s averagingĀ 27.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 blocks while shooting 50.4 percent from the field and 85.9 percent from the free-throw line.

LeBron, meanwhile, is playing like an MVP now that heā€™s healthy again. The King is putting upĀ 25.4 points, 8.0 rebounds and 10.7 assists and shooting 48.8 percent overall, 35.1 percent from the 3-point line and 69.1 percent from the charity stripe.

Davis becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season ends once he declines his 2020-21 player option with the Lakers. However, no one in league circles anticipates Davis leaving LA.

AD is expected to sign a long-term extension with the Lakers.
