On Wednesday night, two of the best point forwards of all time in LeBron James and Luka Doncic squared off, with the Los Angeles Lakers hosting the Dallas Mavericks. Doncic returned just in time from injury to match up against a player he grew up idolizing, but James showed that he still has a few old man tricks in the bag after the Lakers came out on top, 127-110, to take their second victory in a row against an above .500 Western Conference team.

During the contest, both Doncic and James showed off the incredible playmaking feel that sets them apart from their contemporaries. The Mavericks star got the playmaking wizardry started in the third quarter when he threw a no-look, one handed pass behind his head right towards the shooting pocket of Maxi Kleber, who nailed the three.

LeBron James knows basketball genius when he sees it, and the Lakers star, in the aftermath of the play above, was so impressed, motioning to his teammates what an absurd play it was from Luka Doncic to be able to convert that pass.

Nonetheless, James showed the Mavericks that his playmaking bag runs as deep as anyone's. In the fourth quarter, with the Lakers already up by 20 with less than eight minutes remaining in the contest, the King dropped a needle-threading pass to a sprinting Jarred Vanderbilt for an easy dunk.

LeBron James' pass may not have been as flashy as Luka Doncic's, but it was a difficult dime to drop nonetheless. After all, James had to angle the pass to avoid it from being tipped by Kyrie Irving, and he had to put just the right amount of power on the ball so it would bounce straight to Vanderbilt in his stride instead of bobbling it, which would have allowed the Mavericks to recover.

James ended the Lakers victory with eight assists, while Doncic pitched in 10 dimes in the losing effort. Their teams continue to rely on their dribble penetration and scoring ability to generate easy looks, and both always tend to deliver passes right on the money, hence making life easier for their teammates.
