The game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Detroit Pistons on Sunday got surprisingly interesting. LeBron James and Isaiah Stewart were involved in a massive altercation late in the third quarter, and it resulted in some punishments from the NBA.

The league announced on Monday that Lakers' star LeBron James would be suspended one game without pay “for recklessly hitting Stewart in the face and initiating an on-court altercation.” Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart will be facing a two-game suspension without pay for “escalating an on-court altercation by repeatedly and aggressively pursuing Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James in an unsportsmanlike manner.” In his attempt to go after James, Stewart ran over teammates, coaches, referees, and security guards.

LeBron will miss the Lakers' upcoming game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Stewart will miss the Pistons' games against the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks.

On a free throw box out, James tried to ward off Stewart and ended up smacking him right above the eye with the bottom of his hand/side of his palm. Stewart immediately went down, then got up and tried to confront James.

The two were separated by teammates, officials, and coaches immediately. After convincing his team that he was fine and relaxed, freeing himself from their grip, Stewart tried to charge at James, bouncing off teammates, coaches, and security guards as he got closer to LeBron James.

Both players were subsequently ejected from the game, leaving the Lakers without their star and the Pistons without another healthy center on the roster. That's when Anthony Davis started having his way. The Lakers outscored the Pistons, 37-17 in the fourth quarter, coming back from down 15 to end the third quarter to win.

After the game, LeBron James reportedly tried to track down Isaiah Stewart's phone number following last night's Pistons-Lakers game to let him know the elbow was not intentional.

The Lakers will enter their matchup against the Knicks with a 9-9 record and without LeBron James. The Pistons will enter their matchup with the Heat with a 4-12 record and without Isaiah Stewart.
