Remember when LeBron James and Lonzo Ball had a small talk last season at the end of a game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers at the Quicken Loans Arena?

People couldn’t tell exactly what the former Cavs star told Ball discussion was about because both were covering their mouths as though they were a baseball battery deliberating on what the next pitch should be.

It didn’t help that the two were tight-lipped about their tête-à-tête when asked about it.

However, we finally now have a better idea of the nature of that conversation, when James elaborated on it during an interview with ESPNLA with Mason & Ireland.

The gist of it was at the end of the day, no one can define who you are but yourself. When you’re young, you can get caught up and listening to what people say, what people thinking that you should be, what people saying what your game should be. But at the end of the day, no one can define who are you besides yourself. If you put in the work, you commit the game, then the game will give back to you and that’s all it’s about.

Apparently, LeBron James was merely trying to pump up the confidence of Lonzo Ball, who was among the most polarizing figures in the NBA last season.

James will have more time to mentor Ball today, though, as he’s now on the same side of the fence as the former UCLA Bruins star after signing a huge four-year, $153.3 million deal with the Lakers back in July.
