LeBron James has always championed his fellow athletes. He's been at the forefront of individual empowerment in sports and he's done it in a variety of ways.

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Lakers main man celebrated tennis superstar Naomi Osaka after the trailer for her new documentary series on Netflix was released. LeBron called the four-time Grand Slam champion Queen Naomi.

It's worth noting that the three-part documentary series entitled ā€œNaomi Osaka: Playing By Her Own Rulesā€ was produced by LeBron and business partner Maverick Carter. The two have been conjuring up award-winning content in recent years, even recently taking home a Sports Emmy trophy.

Osaka found herself on the headlines a few weeks ago for refusing to play in the French Open due to her mental health. Tennis officials blasted her for her decision, but she earned tremendous support from fellow athletes, including NBA stars like Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard, Ja Morant, etc.

LeBron has taken his support up a notch with the upcoming Netflix special, which will air on July 16. The 23-year-old Osaka has also been one of the biggest advocates of the Black Lives Matter movement, openly talking about injustices and racism in the United States.

According to the synopsis on Netflix, the documentary series will be an intimate look into Osaka's journey (via Indie Wire).

ā€œWith unprecedented access, we follow Osaka during a historic two years in which she works on her game but also begins to find her voice. Whether sheā€™s defending her grand slam titlesā€”while wearing masks in defense of Black livesā€”mourning the unexpected loss of mentor Kobe Bryant, or finding her independence, the challenges Naomi faces on a personal level begin to align with those in the public sphere.ā€

Can't blame LeBron James for getting excited.
