After several seasons of miserable play as the youngsters learned the NBA ropes, things are finally clicking for the Los Angeles Lakers. Don’t look now but these Lakers are in the midst of their longest home winning streak in the last five seasons.

Despite having a losing record, this young Lakers squad is learning to play together, winning seven of their last nine games. That stretch includes a six-game winning streak at home which they hope will rub off on their series of upcoming road games.

Leading the way is rookie Kyle Kuzma, the team’s leading scorer who led them to a 108-107 win against the Eastern Conference-leading Boston Celtics on Tuesday. He scored 17 points in the fourth quarter, and 28 points overall, to secure the victory. Kuzma’s heroics secured another home victory that could ignite the team to continue winning consistently heading into the All-Star break.

Here’s the list of teams that fell during the Lakers’ streak:

  1. Atlanta Hawks (132-113)
  2. Sacramento Kings (99-86)
  3. San Antonio Spurs (93-81)
  4. Indiana Pacers (99-86)
  5. New York Knicks (127-107)
  6. Boston Celtics (108-107)

The Lakers have a balanced attack with seven players averaging in double figures with Kuzma leading the way at 16.7 points per game. Next are Brandon Ingram (15.5), Jordan Clarkson (14.4), Julius Randle (13.6), Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (13.5), Brook Lopez (11.7), and Lonzo Ball (10.2).

Clarkson has been on fire of late as well, scoring 22 versus the Celtics, dropping 29 against the New York Knicks, and exploding for 33 on the Indiana Pacers — all wins.

The Lakers won’t be playing at home until Feb. 6 when they face the Phoenix Suns.
