The Los Angeles Lakers are set to begin their regular season campaign on Thursday, Oct. 19 against the L.A. Clippers. As to who exactly will start that game for the Lakers is still not quite set in stone.

According to Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints, head coach Luke Walton and the rest of his coaching staff are “still evaluating” their options to start for the season opener.

Barring any more setbacks to his ankle, Lonzo Ball is almost a lock to start in the Lakers' backcourt alongside Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. The rookie has already participated in scrimmages and while he reportedly looked a bit rusty, a healthy Ball should be able to make his home debut as part of the starting five.

Veteran Brook Lopez is most likely the starter at center and Brandon Ingram could hold the starting small forward spot. However, it’s not entirely clear which power forward starts alongside them in the frontcourt.

Luke Walton said recently that they are still debating the matter, with Larry Nance Jr. and Kyle Kuzma still in the mix to possibly start in place of the incumbent Julius Randle. Randle is apparently dealing with an intercostal strain, although he has practiced and could still play.

Regardless of who starts on opening night, though, the starting power forward situation could still change a few more times over the course of the year given the Lakers’ multiple options at the position.
