Los Angeles Lakers big man Marc Gasol recently shed light regarding the expected rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine in the near future. He opted to defer and admitted that there are people who are more at risk and need the vaccine first before they do as NBA players.

“There’s people right now that need the vaccine more than what we do,” Gasol said via USA Today. “We are very fortunate to be in a very safe environment. Statistically, the virus doesn’t affect a 35-year-old male as much as it affects other people that are more at risk and more vulnerable to the virus. I would prefer the vaccine goes to people that need it the most instead of us. That to me is just common sense.”

Gasol had parents who worked in the medical industry and has been reportedly taking the virus seriously as of late. In fact, he stayed indoors and worked on his conditioning instead in preparation for the 2020-2021 NBA season.

After two seasons with the Toronto Raptors including an NBA title won back in 2019, the Spanish national is now ready to open the next chapter of his career. He eventually packed his bags and previously inked a two-year, five million bargain deal to play for the Lakers.

Entering the twilight zone of his 13-year playing career, the three-time All-Star is hoping to make the most out of his opportunities on the court and vie for another title. Despite his success on the court, Marc Gasol remains humble as ever and his recent statement was a testament to that.
