The Los Angeles Lakers have been down on their luck recently. The team is 10th in the Western Conference with a deep losing record of 31-43. Now, rumor has it that former LA star Pau Gasol is returning, but not to help the Lakers in their late-season drought.

The center recently said that he is talking to the Golden State Warriors about a “potential role.”

Legion Hoops tweeted the news Tuesday afternoon.

“I've been going a little bit under the radar with the Warriors, and they've kinda opened their doors for me to come in and be part of meetings,” Gasol said.

This is huge news for the Warriors, who, like the Lakers, are struggling with injuries late into the season. It's unclear what “role” Gasol could play for the team, which has gone the entire season without rookie center James Wiseman.

Gasol announced his retirement from professional basketball only a few months ago. He played his last game in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2019, before joining FC Barcelona. The center found the most success during his 2008-2014 run with the Lakers, where he became a two-time NBA champion.

At 41-years-old, Gasol would be one of the oldest players in the league. Udonis Haslem of the Miami Heat is the oldest active NBA player. He is less than a month older than Gasol and will turn 42 years old in June.
