On the latest episode of the All The Smoke Podcast hosted by former NBA forwards Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce talked about his relationship with the late Los Angeles Lakers icon Kobe Bryant.

Pierce says he and Bryant “had a different type of relationship.”

“I played mad against everybody, but him – we always just had a different type of relationship,” Paul Pierce said. “I think it was more out of respect too. Everybody else, I pretty much couldn’t care less about. It seemed that way, off the court. Just to have the opportunity to match up with him, know him on-and-off the court was special. It made me who I am, pretty much.”

Kobe Bryant tragically passed away in a helicopter crash which also killed his daughter Gigi and seven others. Pierce and the entire NBA community are still getting over Bryant’s passing.

The Lakers and Celtics had a lot of great battles when Bryant and Pierce were starring for their respective club. Kobe and Pierce faced off in the NBA Finals twice, with each superstar winning and losing once.

As we all know, Bryant is the greatest Lakers player of all time. Kobe averaged 25.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists during his career with the Lakers. The Black Mamba won five championships, two Finals MVPs and was a 18-time All-Star.

This year's Lakers have the best record in the Western Conference standings. If the season resumes, L.A. fans are hoping LeBron James and Anthony Davis can deliver banner No. 17 to the Lakers franchise.
