The Los Angeles Lakers officially announced Darvin Ham as their new head coach last week. With Ham officially on board, it's time to fill out a coaching staff. Memphis Tigers head coach Penny Hardaway said Monday that Rasheed Wallace is expected to leave him and join Ham in Hollywood.

Later Monday morning, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported on a possible agreement between Wallace and the Lakers, though nothing has been finalized just yet.

Wallace does have experience coaching in the NBA, as he spent one season as an assistant for the Detroit Pistons in 2013-14. However, he wasn't retained when Stan Van Gundy took over after that season.

The former Piston was hired in 2019 to be a high school head coach at Charles E. Jordan High School in Durham, North Carolina. Then in 2021, Wallace joined Hardaway's staff at Memphis.

Now it appears Wallace will be a Lakers coach, joining up with a former NBA teammate in Ham. Their paths briefly crossed as players in the NBA with the Pistons at the end of Ham's career.

Wallace certainly knows a thing or two about the Lakers. He faced them twice in the NBA Finals, the first time as a member of the Pistons in 2004 (a win) and then as a member of the Boston Celtics in 2010 (a loss). He also engaged in playoff battles with the Lakers as a member of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Assuming he is in fact hired, Wallace will try to help Ham get the Lakers back to a championship level after a dismal 2021-22 campaign under Frank Vogel. Los Angeles didn't even make the play-in tournament as the Russell Westbrook experiment failed badly, with Anthony Davis' injury woes also hurting the team. There are signs that Westbrook could actually be back in 2022-23, making the Lakers' coaching situation even more important.

Stay tuned for an official announcement on the Lakers hiring Rasheed Wallace.
