Los Angeles Lakers point guard Rajon Rondo is expected to be out for six to eight weeks after suffering a thumb injury.
According to Rachel Nichols of ESPN, Rondo has a fracture in his right thumb. He is set to undergo surgery this week, but his recovery time is set one and half to two months.
The Lakers say Rajon Rondo has a fracture in his right thumb and will undergo surgery this week. Should recover in 6-8 weeks, which would be the end of August/beginning of September – in other words: end of the first round/start of the second round of the playoffs.

Rajon Rondo has been one of the critical pieces of the Lakers' playbook over the past two seasons. His veteran presence and overall knowledge have been a perfect complement to LeBron James' similar savant-like basketball persona.
Apart from this, he has guided the young backup guards like Quinn Cook and Alex Caruso into becoming key role players for the Purple and Gold. As a result, he has helped transform the Lakers into serious contenders.

It is also worth noting that Rondo has transformed his body over the NBA hiatus, recently showing his ripped body on social media. With that, several fans grew excited about what the new and improved Rondo can do.
Only time will tell if Rondo's injury will hurt the Lakers' title hopes. In the regular season games without him, the other guards have stepped up to fill in the void, so that should be some sort of a blessing for the franchise.
But then again, playoff ball is starkly different from regular season games. Rondo, with his one ring and vast playoff experience, is perhaps the most important player for the Lakers next to James and Anthony Davis when it comes to postseason impact.
Rondo has proven time and time again that he knows what playoff pressure is like, which is why he's considered as one of the playoff performers of his generation.
