Russell Westbrook joined the Los Angeles Lakers this summer as he teamed up with LeBron James and Anthony to make their own Big 3. But, he didn’t necessarily ask for a trade away from the Washington Wizards.

Russ voiced his desire to potentially join the Lakers, but he also made it clear to Wizards GM Tommy Sheppard he was happy to be back in DC if that couldn’t happen. However, he made one thing clear: the Clippers weren’t a team he wanted to play for. Via NBC Sports Washington’s Chris Miller:

“I really have the set the record straight on that,” Sheppard said. “Russell never actually asked to move on, he just said ‘If I can get to the Lakers, it’s something I’d love to do. If not, I’ll be back here’. I said, ‘What about the Clippers?’ he said, ‘Hell no’.

Apparently, Westbrook had no interest in teaming up with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. He wanted LeBron. Ultimately, Washington and the Lakers pulled off a blockbuster deal that sent Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Kyle Kuzma to the Wizards, while LA got Russ.

While we don’t exactly know what to expect from Westbrook with the Lakers, his resume speaks for itself. The man is a walking triple-double who can contribute in every single way offensively. It will certainly be interesting to see how he can fit alongside LeBron and AD, but I’m sure it won’t be any problem as they chase a title in 2022.
