As seen in the video above, Hill goes down and puts his weight on James’ ankle, which he sprained on the play. Lakers fans and James’ own teammates did not like the way Hill was fighting for the ball. People then took to social media, specifically on Hill’s Instagram comments and Twitter mentions to call out what they thought was a dirty play.

Hill, who has been in the league for eight years, claims he didn’t intend to hurt the four-time NBA champion. Despite the unpleasant play, Hill said that he would never disrespect the game like that.

A few of James’ Lakers teammates, like reigning Sixth Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell, told reporters after the game that he felt Hill did not make a basketball play when diving on the floor and going through James’ legs. Harrell added that the referees should have reviewed the play instead of calling it a common foul.

As of writing, the severity of James’ injury remains unclear. But just to give an idea, a grade one ankle sprain could take two weeks while a grade three could be more than six weeks which might be towards the start of playoffs.
