Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and he has been largely linked with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, the Purple and Gold might have some issues signing him even if there's a mutual interest.

According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Dinwiddie is seeking a contract that will pay him $25 million per year. To recall, the Nets combo guard declined his $12.3 million player option with the team last month with hopes and expectations of getting a significant pay raise and a longer deal.

While it's easy to argue that Dinwiddie certainly deserves such hefty salary, especially since he is a productive guard when healthy, there are concerns about his injury status. After all, the Lakers target is coming of a partial ACL tear that kept him out for a huge chunk of the 2020-21 season.

In 2019-20, Dinwiddie averaged 20.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 6.8 assists in 64 games (49 starts) for the Nets.

With his asking price, the Lakers might have some reservations on possibly chasing for Spencer Dinwiddie. There is no doubt he is a starting-caliber point guard and LA can use his scoring, something that was clearly lacking from the team. However, the Purple and Gold have several other key needs they need to address, including bringing back the likes of Alex Caruso and Talen Horton-Tucker.

Moreover, the Lakers have been linked with other guards like Kyle Lowry and Lonzo Ball, with the former expected to command $30 million and the latter at $25 million.

Sure enough, the Lakers have a lot of thinking and decision-making to do to improve the roster around LeBron James and Anthony Davis for 2021-22.
