The Los Angeles Lakers had arguably the most disappointing season of the entire NBA. They went 33-49 and finished 11th in the Western Conference without a chance at a playoff run. Now, along with finding a replacement for the recently fired Frank Vogel, there are talks of the Lakers potentially trading LeBron James.

While nothing has come from the Los Angeles team itself, trade rumors and ideas are flying throughout the media. Most recently, Stephen A Smith discussed the possibility on First Take. According to Smith, trading James would be “the only chance you have to be immediately respectable if you're the Los Angeles Lakers.”

He tweeted a clip from the show Wednesday morning.

“I think the Los Angeles Lakers should strongly consider trading LeBron James,” Smith said. “This is not throwing a speck of shade on LeBron James…it's a testament to his greatness…the Los Angeles Lakers as presently constructed are going nowhere.”

Smith brought up Russell Westbrook, who he claims “clearly lost something,” but could come back next year “to some degree.” He also mentioned Anthony Davis, who is “perpetually injured” and “not reliable health-wise.”

In other words, James is the only player that the Lakers could trade that would give them an actual return.

“He's the only person that has extreme value,” Smith said.

Getting James out of Los Angeles could be a win-win for both parties. As Stephen A mentioned, the Lakers aren't set to win anything anytime soon. It would basically be a favor for James to ship him to a more promising franchise. And, his quality could get Los Angeles multiple players to begin rebuilding its roster.
