One of many inexplicable tragedies to come from Sunday was the death of NBA All-Star Kobe Bryant's 13-year-old daughter Gianna (“Gigi”), who had hoop dreams of her own.

The younger Bryant was seen at basketball games—the NBA, WNBA, and the NCAA ranks—with her future Hall of Fame father on many occasions. She was a student of the game like Kobe and pursued the sport diligently. Gigi was on her way to her basketball game with a teammate and parent when the helicopter tragically crashed.

Gianna also dreamed of playing for the UConn Huskies. One of, if not, the most established women's basketball institution in the country. The Huskies have an A+ recruiting program and on-court excellence in this generation unparalleled (including six NCAA tournament championships in the last eleven years).

UConn honored Gianna's memory with a jersey bearing Bryant's daughter's name on a seat baseline on Monday adorned with flowers ahead of their exhibition matchup with the United States women's national team (via ESPN).

Gigi will never get to fulfill her dreams of playing for the Huskies or playing professionally in the WNBA. Ever the first class organization, UConn will play tonight against Team USA with Bryant's daughter in the building in spirit. Even though she desperately wanted to continue working hard and making her way to Storrs, Connecticut.

Not only has the basketball community been grieving today and yesterday. But the sports world has their collective mind elsewhere. As they continue to mourn the cruel loss of Gigi on our earth and the lives lost on Sunday.
