Of late, the Los Angeles Lakers have not had a lot to celebrate. They are on a three-game losing streak which began with a drubbing at the hands of traditional rivals the Boston Celtics. So when Luka Doncic’s 27th birthday arrived, the entire Lakers squad was seen celebrating it in a heartwarming manner.

LeBron James led the group in singing a “Happy Birthday” to the Slovenian international, who wears the number 77 both for the Lakers and his national team. Doncic’s teammates then brought out the highlight of the celebration which took place before their game against the Golden State Warriors, a birthday cake shaped like a jersey but split through the middle; one half representing his national team, and the other the franchise, per a post on X by ClutchPoints.

“Slov-Lakers,” Doncic read out from the cake, which quickly became a slogan the entire room began to chant. The Lakers undoubtedly found cause for celebration despite the losses, with Luka Magic turning 27 on February 28.

Regardless, the Lakers are still sixth in the West with a 34-24 record but have lost crucial ground to teams such as the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets, who both have a 37-23 record. Doncic and co. do have a rather straightforward route to bringing an end to the skid.

They have a relatively healthy roster with each of Austin Reaves, LeBron and Doncic to call upon. The Warriors in comparison are severely handicapped, with the Curry brothers out alongside Jimmy Butler and LJ Cryer, while Kristaps Porzingis is questionable and Draymond Green probable to play.

The Lakers need to steady the ship quickly in order to avoid dropping further down, with teams such as the Phoenix Suns (34-26) in close pursuit. The Suns also handed them the third of their three consecutive losses, with two of those coming against teams the Lakers would have expected to beat.

In addition to the Celtics, the Lakers also lost to the Orlando Magic 110-109, which again came despite the presence of their big three. A win will not only mean an end to the streak, but will also dampen the noise surrounding the fit of their three biggest stars on the same starting lineup.
