While it isn't exactly the most ideal situation for the Los Angeles Lakers, the team is more than willing to let assistant coach Jason Kidd leave the squad to pursue a better position elsewhere. This comes in the form of the head coaching post with the Mavs, and as it turns out, Kidd will be leaving the Lakers with a bit of a parting gift as he makes the move to Dallas.

According to reports, Kidd might be looking to take some members of the Lakers' coaching staff with him to the Mavs. I'm not entirely sure how well this will sit with Frank Vogel or LeBron James, for that matter (h/t Kyle Goon of The Orange County Register):

Cultivating a coaching staff takes time, but multiple sources who spoke to Southern California News Group on Friday said it is possible that Kidd could ask current Lakers staffers to join him in Texas to coach a team built around budding superstar Luka Doncic.

This makes sense considering how Kidd has built good working relationships with Frank Vogel's coaching staff. He has quite a daunting task ahead of him in trying to lead Luka Doncic and the Mavs to success, and he could definitely get all the help he can.

The Lakers, on the other hand, might not be willing to let Kidd tear their coaching staff apart. This is Vogel's coaching team and he should have a significant say in the matter. LeBron could weigh in as well.

At the end of the day, though, this might be out of the hands of the Lakers. Ultimately, the decision to leave or stay will be made by the personnel involved in Kidd's rumored recruitment run — whoever these assistant coaches may be.
