During the Anthony Davis trade saga around the February trade deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers reportedly received backchannel information that Davis liked head coach Luke Walton.

According to Bill Oram of The Athletic, there was an increasing pressure on Walton amid the team's struggles. However, while there were reports of a possible coaching change in LA midway through the season, it didn't materialize as Davis was reportedly fond of Walton.

At one point, some in Walton’s circles feared Paul was trying to use the Davis situation to leverage a coaching change, with the premise being that his arrival would require a higher-caliber coach. But the Lakers received backchannel information that Davis liked Walton and that relieved pressure on the third-year head coach.

The Lakers weren't able to trade for Anthony Davis at the trade deadline. It is believed the New Orleans Pelicans didn't want to do business with Los Angeles.

The Purple and Gold will try to trade for Davis again this summer. It's unclear, though, if the Lakers will retain Luke Walton as head coach. There have been rumblings that Walton will be fired after the season ends.

The first year of the LeBron James era in Los Angeles was a disaster. The team missed the playoffs and the locker room was torn apart after the Davis trade rumors got leaked to the media. We'll see how this summer goes.
